Beginning at the start of the holiday season, the health center will hold its second Tenderloin Cares, affectionately called TLC, to community offering a hot meal, flu shots, hygiene kits, haircuts, needle exchange services, mental health referrals and medical care in one convenient location. Today, the Trump administration announced the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, putting 800,000 young adults, more than a quarter of whom live in California, at risk for deportation. For five years, the DACA program has allowed immigrant youth to temporarily live and work without fear of being deported if they paid a fee, passed a background check, and met rigorous eligibility requirements. We’re proud to announce that our very own Tapakorn Prasertsith was named an NMAC Youth Scholar this year. The competitive program is sponsored by NMAC, ViiV Healthcare, Magic Johnson Foundation, and Advocates for Youth. The program is designed to develop “future leaders among a cadre of Youth Scholars to take action to end HIV/AIDS in their communities via educational training, professional development, and networking opportunities.” Scholars will attend the US Conference on AIDS and complete a special project in their community by the end of the year.
