Today's conference sessions left me feeling conflicted. It was exciting to be part of history at the first Trans pre-conference at the International Aids Conference, but I was left wanting more. More Trans people at the conference, more sessions on Trans folks, more from folks who call themselves allies. It's time for cis folks to step to the side and realize the importance of Trans led and developed services.

But there’s another reason this event is so special to us. Our headliner, Aidan Park, is actually a former client of A&PI Wellness Center. Growing up wasn’t easy for Aidan. He emigrated from Korea when he was just 9 years old and landed in San Francisco’s Fillmore district, living in Section 8 housing with his grandmother. He didn’t speak any English at all and found it hard to connect with kids in school and the world around him. Self-expression became a minefield, further complicated by his fear of revealing his sexual identity.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – This week, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) appointed A&PI Wellness Center to be a new Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), increasing access to the highest-quality primary care, mental health, and supportive services for thousands of LGBTQ San Franciscans, people of color, and people living in the Tenderloin neighborhood.
The competitive award secures approximately $650,000 in annual funding for the organization. A&PI Wellness Center was the only community health center in San Francisco and one of 266 clinics ...

Lava Mae is a mobile shower and sanitation service. We convert retired MUNI buses into bathrooms on wheels; each bus is equipped with two completely private facilities, each with a shower, toilet, sink, and changing area. Sign-ups are free and first-come-first-serve. Soap and towels are provided.
