In Santa Clara County HIV and AIDS cases reported through June
2004 include:
Of the 19 AIDS cases reported, 26% were White, 5% were Black,
63% were Hispanic, and 5% were Asian/Pacific Islander.
Of the 845 HIV cases, about 53% were White, 9% were Black,
31% were Hispanic, and 5% were Asian/Pacific Islander.
The prevalence rate for AIDS for Asian/Other is 15.7 per 100,000;
prevalence rate for HIV/non-AIDS for Asian/Other: 5.9 per 100,000.
Anecdotal evidence indicates that co-morbidities are widespread.
Co-morbidity data without racial/ethnic or gender breakdown
provides further support. Among persons with HIV/AIDS in
Santa Clara County:
23.7% of persons with HIV
had a serious mental illness; 20.0% of persons with AIDS
had a serious mental illness
7.2% of persons with HIV
had a substance abuse problem; 5.4% of persons with AIDS
