First National Conference Addressing
HIV/AIDS Research in Asian & Pacific Islander Communities
to be held in Oakland, Calif. on November 15-17, 2002

The first national conference addressing HIV/AIDS research
in Asian and Pacific Islander (A&PI) communities will
take place on November 15 - 17, 2002 at the Oakland Marriott
City Center, 1001 Broadway, Oakland, Calif. The event, A&PI
SHARE, is organized by Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness
Center and the University of California, San Francisco School
of Medicine, in collaboration with the Office of AIDS Research,
National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services.
The A&PI SHARE registration fee is $200 for professionals
and $50 for students, and covers admission to conference proceedings
from Friday evening, November 15 through Sunday afternoon,

A&PI SHARE will provide a forum for researchers, health
care and service providers, and consumers to examine the status
and needs of HIV research, prevention, case management, and
services for A&PIs worldwide. Conference sessions address
HIV research and best practices about, and from within, Asian
and Pacific Islander communities; promoting and sustaining
HIV research in the Asian and Pacific Islander communities
in the U.S.; issues affecting underserved A&PI communities,
including South and South East Asians and Pacific Islanders,
women, youth, transgendered persons, commercial sex workers,
migrants, the homeless, and immigrants; and research findings,
issues, and best practices in the areas of HIV prevention,
