Thai/Lao/Cambodian New Year Celebration
Held in San Francisco on April 6
(San Francisco, March 11 2003)
A celebration of the Thai/Lao/Cambodian New Year will be
held in San Francisco on Sunday, April 6, from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. It will take place at Big Heart City, located at 836
Mission Street (between 4th and 5th Streets). The event is
free and open to the public. Asian & Pacific Islander
Wellness Center is sponsoring the festivities.
The Thai/Lao/Cambodian New Year Celebration includes an authentic
Thai food buffet, live classical Thai music and dance performances,
and a traditional New Year blessing given by Thai Buddhist
monks.
In addition, free HIV testing will be offered at the celebration
so that people can know their status and seek care and treatment
as early as possible. The Thai community in the U.S. is particularly
at risk of infection, given the incidence of HIV in their
home country.
