Asian & Pacific Wellness Center Offers Free, Confidential, Anonymous HIV Testing throughout the Year
(San Francisco, April 16 2004)

Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center (A& PI Wellness Center) offers free, confidential, anonymous HIV testing at its San Francisco office, located at 730 Polk Street, Fourth Floor in the Tenderloin. Free HIV testing is conducted every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and by appointment on Saturdays. For information or appointments, call 415.292.3420 x304.

Results of HIV tests are provided within one week, and A&PI Wellness Center provides counseling before HIV testing and after results are provided. Counseling is available in Japanese, Cantonese, Mandarin, Thai, Lao, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Burmese, Ilokano, Visayan and English. Interpretation services are available for other Asian and Pacific Islander languages.
A&PI Wellness Center also conducts free HIV testing at San Francisco LGBT Pride and community events held throughout the year. Starting in the summer, 2004, the agency will offer rapid testing to provide clients with the option of confirming their HIV status in less than one hour. A&PI Wellness Center educates, supports, empowers, and advocates for A&PI communities, particularly A&PIs living with or at-risk for HIV/AIDS. Founded in 1987 as a grassroots response to the HIV/AIDS crisis in communities of color, it is the oldest nonprofit organization in North America targeting A&PI communities around sexual health and HIV/AIDS services.
