Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center Participating in Macy’s Passport Fundraiser on September 24 and 25
(San Francisco, August 23 2004)

Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center (A&PI Wellness Center) has been selected to participate in Macy’s Union Square’s Passport In-Store fundraiser on Friday, September 24 and Saturday, September 25. Passport In-Store is a shopping event benefiting more than 535 HIV/AIDS community organizations in the Bay Area, including A&PI Wellness Center. The day of fashion events, special discounts, cooking demonstrations, makeovers, and the chance to win a $1000 Macy’s shopping spree is sponsored by Cargo, Western Interiors and Design, the San Francisco Chronicle, Electrolux, 98.1 KISS-FM, Luna Bar, and Boudin Sourdough Bakery and Café.

A&PI Wellness Center will sell $10 tickets, which may be used not only at Macy’s Union Square, but also at its Valley Fair and Corte Madera stores, during Passport In-Store. The agency will retain 100 percent of the proceeds from these ticket sales.

In addition to A&PI Wellness Center’s efforts to sell tickets, Macy’s Union Square employees will be involved in the fundraising event by selling tickets to their customers three weeks prior to Passport In-Store. Macy’s will split all funds raised by their employees among participating charities. Macy’s also will contribute an additional $3 to A&PI Wellness Center for every pre-sold ticket redeemed during Passport In-Store.

A&PI Wellness Center supporters who are unable to attend Passport In-Store or who want to avoid the crowds are invited to “pre-shop” beginning on Thursday, September 16. Items purchased through pre-selection may be picked up beginning on Friday, September 24 and ending on Thursday, October 7.

To purchase a $10 ticket for Macy’s Union Square’s Passport In-Store fundraiser or to volunteer to sell tickets, call Nikki Calma at 415.292.3420 x348.

A&PI Wellness Center educates, supports, empowers, and advocates for A&PI communities, particularly A&PIs living with or at-risk for HIV/AIDS. Founded in 1987 as a grassroots response to the HIV/AIDS crisis in communities of color, it is the oldest nonprofit organization in North America targeting A&PI communities around sexual health and HIV/AIDS services.
