Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center
Elects Michael Rabanal to Board of Directors
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Wednesday, November 30, 2005
– Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center (A&PI
Wellness Center) today announced that Michael Rabanal has
joined its Board of Directors.
Rabanal, who is Filipino and a native of Stockton, Calif.,
brings 12 years of management consulting experience, the last
nine with Deloitte Consulting as one of the West Region’s
Human Capital Leaders focusing on the public sector industry.
Prior to his tenure with Deloitte, he consulted with local
government and nonprofit organizations in the Bay Area. He
has master degrees in public health and social work from U.C.
Berkeley.
“A&PI Wellness Center has truly become a leader
in delivering cutting-edge health-related services to the
community,” said Rabanal. “The organization’s
focused approach on health education, research, and sustainability
– while always keeping a pulse on the communities it
serves – is what has drawn me most to volunteer. I’ve
been truly impressed by the diversity of board members’
backgrounds, their enthusiasm, and a willingness to grow from
the experience of leading and participating.”
“We are delighted to add Mike’s passion and expertise
to the board,” said Jan Masaoka, board chair of A&PI
Wellness Center and executive director of CompassPoint Nonprofit
Services. “As we launch our 20th year, we are grateful
that A&PI leaders of this caliber are willing to step
up to the challenges of meeting our communities’ ever-expanding
needs.”
A&PI Wellness Center educates, supports, empowers, and
advocates for A&PI communities, particularly A&PIs
living with or at-risk for HIV/AIDS. Founded in 1987 as a
grassroots response to the HIV/AIDS crisis in communities
of color, it is the oldest nonprofit organization in North
America focusing on A&PI communities around sexual health
and HIV/AIDS. Based in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood
with satellite offices in downtown Oakland and Daly City,
A&PI Wellness Center’s staff speak 20 languages
and deliver programming regionally, statewide and nationally.
