for HIV/AIDS. It will feature two Native Hawaiian guest speakers,
living with HIV, and their stories of endurance, courage
and strength. A screening of the powerful film "HIV
in Hawaii," will follow, which shares the personal stories
of two Native Hawaiians affected by HIV; produced by our
sister agency in Hawai'i, Life Foundation. Free, anonymous
HIV testing and counseling is available from 2 p.m. onwards,
on March 23rd, on both a drop-in and by-appointment basis.

WHERE:
Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center, San Francisco
Office 730 Polk Street, 4th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94109
WHY:
This event is in commemoration of the First National Native
HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a nationally recognized day held
on March 21, 2007 by the Office of Minority Health. This
day spotlights the need for increased education and support
of individuals and communities living with HIV/AIDS within
Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities.
Our event on March 23rd will focus on celebrating Asian & Pacific
Islander Wellness Center's Native Hawaiian clients, staff
and community members. HIV/AIDS disproportionately impacts
Native Hawaiians. In Hawaii, while the Native Hawaiian population
makes up only 8.6% of the state's population, as of June
2005 they accounted for 11% of total AIDS cases. For more
